I am finally getting some supplies together to put my little tri-hull back together. I have my resin. The glass is on the way and the wood for the transom and the stringers. A question about my transom came to mind.
The original transom was built using a single 3/4" piece of plywood. The upper portion of the transom was doubled using a board nailed to the outside of the inner transom to give that area the thickness. The clamping area of the transom that accomodates the engine is two inches. The doubler under the splashwell originally made up this thickness. I was planning on building the replacement transom out of two pieces of 3/4 ply making the whole transom thicker than the original. Given the cost of the materials, you think building the thicker transom is overkill? I love the idea of having a rock solid transom but is this too much for such a small boat? The added weight could also be a concern.
BTW (16ft bowrider & 70hp engine)
