Just looking for some help from someone smarter than me. I have a 14' Kenner Craft fiberglass boat with a 25 HP OB and I cut out my rotten transom from the outside. Big mistake after I started reading around. Anyway with damage done what is the best material to use after installing the plywood? I noticed after doing research that there are numerous products out there and can't narrow down the list. Finishing the boat doesn't concern me it is getting the strength back for the hull that does. e.g. best product to use tying back in to original laminate, etc. etc. Thanks.

Re: Transom dilemma

I don't know if this might help you but i ran into the same dilema with my transom, i was able to dig out most of the rotted plywood and sandwiched 3 varnished pices of laminate marine plywood in the affected area, i had to cut it as per fit to get it in, then i took aircraft aluminum angle iron to make a new top i faced the stern inside and out with 1/8" aluminum sheets and bolted it all together after sealing it everywhere with marine caulk, i't made the transome very strong now and i have a 50hp johnson strapped to it. worked for me, also the aluminum angle top pieces are longer to attach them to solid existing transom areas. hope it helps!
