4 days ago I took off the drain plug cover and noticed wetness in the wood. There is still a very small amount of water coming out of the bottom hole drain plug hole (see pic) for water stain. The wood is drying out and I press real hard & the wood doesen't cave in or break so I think the wood is ok??

Please look at the pic & let me know your thought?

I see a transom replacement in the near future, maybe a lot more. Wet wood is not a good sign.

You should test to see if your transom is solid, or it's moving / flexing.

Make sure you seal that up good when you re install the cover.

How do I test the transom for flex?

The stuff I have to seal it when I put the drain plug cover back on is 3m marine 5200 fast cure.

That doesn't look good. Is this an outboard or I/O boat? Rot is like cancer and will spread. If the transom is solid, I'd probably try hitting that hole with some GitRot or something.

Inboard. The stuff I was going to use after the wood is healed is 3m marine 5200 fast cure. How would that compare to the GitRot?

I just had the same problem with my well wash through hull fitting. When I took it out it was damp. I let it dry out for about 3 weeks and used Git Rot in the hole with a syringe. I continued to fill the hole until it over flowed. Let Git Rot cure for 72 hours. Return new fitting and sealed with 5200.

5200 is a permanent sealant with little to no flex. Git Rot is a penetrating epoxy.

Got to thinking about doing what you did with the two products to fix the issue. Did the process work? End result?

I watched the video on GitRot. Thank you ezmobee for telling me about this product. I'm going to order the product & use with 3m Marine 5200 Fast Cure

Step 1: GitRot
Step 2: 3m Marine 5200 Fast Cure

End Solution - Problem fixed I hope (fingers crossed)

Is this a true inboard or and inboard / outboard? Is the any evidence of fiberglass cracking or movement of the transom (bent trim pieces)?

The 3M 5200 will dry hard and be almost permanent, you might be better off with 3M 4200 which stays flexible and can be removed if necessary.

Mercruiser 305 (230hp) with Alpha one out drive.

I've used 4200 in the past & had good luck with it.

I don't see any fiberglass cracking, and when I put weight on the outdrive I get the impression the transom is still strong.

There is a screw hole on the right lower about 2-4 inches from the bottom and that hole is dry and same for left side where the mounting plate was for the transducer at the bottom of hull.

I'm not an I/O guy, (that's what you have), but it sounds like with the GitRot and the 4200 you should be able to save this or at least prolong the replacement.

Hopefully others with more knowledge will help you out, good luck.

It hardened pretty well, better than putting nothing on it at all. It is still in my garage today haven't take it out yet. I also used Git Rot around my ski locker, but I wasn't really impressed with the wood hardening. I will end up making some PB and forming edges again.
