Re: Transom drain plug.

... So what is Teflon tape good for? I've got a bunch of it.

The purpose of Teflon tape is to fill in the gaps between the threads in a fitting.
Even tapered thread do not completely seal when tightened.
It become the virtual gasket.

The alternative is Pipe Thread Seal paste.
It is messy and tends to dry out over time.
And not as acceptable if some of it gets into the flow stream if used on pipes carrying food stuffs. (Water, Milk, Beer)

Teflon tape is a one time use product.
Once you back off the threads, you will need to remove the remaining tape and reapply.
On a bilge plug it will make little difference.
A one ounce a day leak on a boat is nowhere near as noticeable as a one ounce leak under your sink!

Re: Transom drain plug.

No one has really answered my question, so I searched around a little to find another good use for my supply of teflon tape. Please raise you hand if you think this is a good idea.

Just a suggestion since you are looking for feedback on the use of teflon tape:

If you start your own thread that has that in the name you may get a better response than having it buried in a thread that has a title of "Transom drain plug."

Pez, as mentioned, please start your own thread. You're currently hijacking this one...... Thanks.....

SERIOUSLY? ...... My post makes number 47 in a thread where the question was "If this truly is a drain plug and should have a plug in it how hard is it to change this part? "

I'm fairly certain that we covered it more than 40 posts ago........ PEZ is just having a little fun

Yeah, I just noticed Pez's fun little video. Didn't notice it the first time I made a comment, my mistake. This thread has gone by the way of someone asking what time it is and being told how the watch was made.... I'm mean really, what more can be said on this issue????

Miniature giraffes don't make good alternatives for bilge drain plugs.

Not that it really needed to be said. :D

Re: Transom drain plug.

Just buy the Brass bilge plug screw it in, get a pair of plyers give it an extra tug and be done with it. As you can see people like to go above and beyond. Your boat won't have any issues if you do what I stated above. Remember to take it out when you are done for the day and park the boat. Simple as that....

They don't work bad as long as you stuff them in nice and tight. But not too tight because they will tighten some on there own........... :)
