Replacing the transom drain tube, does this require a special crimping tool? I see Wst Marine has the tubes but there is only a lip on one side of it.

There is a flaring tool available but not worth the cost if you only use it once. Using a ballpeen hammer, gently and gradually flare the tube manually. The tubes are brass and are quite pliable. Be sure to use a good sealant in the hole first before inserting the tube. You might want to practice on one before attempting the final install.

To add to what Rod said, use plenty of 5200, cut the tube so about 3/8 is extended beyond the surface. You also want to have someone help or figure out how to force the lip end as much against the surface as possible. You want to have no slop, because slop can loosen the sealant eventually. Good luck...

If you hold a large piece of steal like a 10lb. sledgehammer against the preflared end while you flare the other with a hammer it ought to get nice and tight.

You could probably make a flaring tool out of a big bolt and nut, some washers and a cone that slips over the bolt. Tighten the nut with an impact wrench.
