I did some additional looking and I think combining these two solutions is the best answer I?ve seen so far. Between the cutout and the curve it?s a real pain in the but. I think the plating adds a lot of additional support.

I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill about the curved transom.

That's why God invented tapered shims. So if you elect to buy a commercial jackplate, just use the tapered shims in the correct direction to compenasate for the curve. If you make your own---no problem With 40 or 50 horsepower, you don't need 1/2 inch thick stock so you can bend the metal to any degree you want.

I like TDs plate --simple and functional. If the wood goes bad, just throw in three more pieces. If you don't like wood, substitute plastic. Its a beautiful example of the KISS principal--Keep It Simple, Stupid!
