Transom Gel Cracks

I recently purchased this boat and have some cracks in the lower transom area that appear to be the gel coat cracking.? What would be the best method to fix these areas? Any help is greatly appreciated...

yours looks just like mine did. If you look at my restoration you can see what I did. I cannot contest to how it is going to hold up to the test of time. But the pro's that coached me through it said it would last a lifetime.

hey miami....

first...welcome to i boats.


your transom might be failing...

the second pic shows the transom at the hull angle....the cracking there is caused from stress.

the gellcoat is easy to fix...but the CAUSE may be more difficult.

search transom core sample.

that big motor hanging off the back of a peice of 3/4 ply will do plenty of damage in a fresh gellcoat repair.

you probably have more issues than you know....that transom MAY be ready to fail.

but that dont matter....we are here to help and we can walk you right thru the repairs, what ever they may be.

lol...sorry.....the 100 hp off the back and 3/4 ply was from a different thread is was just reading......but the problem is still the same....your transom might be failing...

crazing on the transom is is something we look for when inspecting hulls

Those cracks are from Expantion..( Inside out ).

Normally I see these repairs in cold/freezing temp areas.. Did you get this boat up north..or was up north sometime ( just going off the Miami in your name ).

Ill bet you have wet wood and its blowing out your gel now..

Yacht Dr. Bingo! Yeap she came from the Great Lakes area. Ok
at least I know what's caused it and I can now proceed with the correct repair. New transom here we come.
