Transom height vs. shaft lenght

What is the max. transom height you can put a 15" shaft outboard on ('08 Yamaha 25hp) Can you put one on a 17 1/2" transom without effecting preformance? Or is it going to require a 20" shaft outboard?

height of the motor definitely effects performance. you need to get the ventilation plate pretty close to the bottom of the hull.
