Whast type of wood is the best for replacing a transome? This is on a 14 semi-v. The wood that is on the boat now is rotting and a want to replace it now that I have the time.

Also another question. I wish to set the motor back from the transome about an inch or so. I have seen some boats where a piece of wood was added to the outside of the transome. What would be the best type? Thanks all.

Re: Transom help?

Marine plywood is the ticket, Spunky. Pressure treated can help it resist future rot, but don't use CDX, use Marine grade. . .much stronger.

A extra medallion of 3/4" Marine grade can give you a small setback, but not so much it interferes with steering and controls.
