I was thinking about mounting a transom mounted tilt switch on my boat. Anyone have them and how useful do you think they are? My boat sits too high for me to reach over and reach the controls when its in the water, and even more so on the trailer.

I don't have one but I will before the boat hits the water this spring, with all the inspections were doing before launch and after retrieval, combined with how in expensive the switch is just makes good sense. the whole setup for me is like $50-$60

The easiest plance to install it is in the motor cowling. If you can find a place in the cowl and a round Marine SPDT switch(to make drilling a hole easy), it will minimize the wiring and keep everything water resistant.

I put one on mine.

Leaving the beach, I push it out from the stern and can lower the drive while pushing when it's deep enough.

Storing and drive service is easier, no need to climb in the boat.

Mine was the cost of a SPDT momentary switch, about $5

Re: Transom mounted tilt switch

I added one to transom above swim platform ON our previous boat, a 20' Glastron bowrider with Mercruiser. I always lowered outdrive when parked and raised before towing. It made it much easier than climbing into boat to raise/lower. It was very easy to install once I got past fear of drilling a 1" hole in transom :) .

The switch is available at West Marine.
I installed one on the bow of my boat. I power on the trailer then walk to the bow, attach the hook, raise the motor, step down onto the trailer tongue then crank the winch tight.

Re: Transom mounted tilt switch

mine is called a trailer tilt--it is mounted above the swim platform.
it raises the drive higher than the trim switch at the helm does.
the outdrive can be damaged if you operate tilted at such a steep angle.

I only trailer the boat 2 or 3 times a year and mostly use the switch to raise the drive high when anchoring in 3 or 4 feet of water at the sandbar.
