Transom noise

While idling away from the dock a growling/ whining noise started. The gimbal was replaced last spring and has been silent since but about 5 min after starting, while at idle, the noise suddenly started like a switch was flipped. I listened to it in neutral for about a minute and decided to continue on a quick cruise. At first it was very loud but as the boat warmed up it quieted down significantly until it was little more than a minor whine. I grease the fitting about once a month. Has anyone experienced this before?

You sure it's the gimbal making noise?

Could also be u-joints, power steering pump, low on gear oil, etc
