Hi All

Have a chance to buy a boat from a friend who got it as a trade. Used it last year to ski and tube, and to tow a 28 foot cabin cruiser when it quit.So it is able to pull, but i wanted to know the communities input as to how tough a rebuild it would be, and also as a family boat, how safe it is as it stands.Long term plan is to use it to do some fishing, tubing, and watching some fireworks. It's a late 70's glastron carlson(not sure exactly)
Also, are there any links to some good, well photo'd repair threads?
By the way, how do you post pics.I can't seem to attach using the forums attachments.I think my file size is to big for my pics(2.4 mb)
Thanks in advance:)

hi......welcome to i boats!

this is how you post pics........http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=285637

as far as the transom rebuild......you said the boat "quit"....make sure the drive line is good or you have another before doing the transom......the motor and or drive is the most expencive.

as far as how to.......every second thread on this section is how to do a transom.

hit search.....or read the compleated projects forum.....or the hull extension thread is a good step by step tutorial......the index is on the first page.

cheers

Hi Oops

Thank you for the prompt reply, and the excellent links to the instruction on pics. The video thread was fantastic.Explained it on the first go,where as reading on the topic is utterly confusing.

So my photos will follow. Just wondered if there was a carlson repaired the same way? The other threads deal with the transom repairs, but seem to be very different vessels. As for the boat itself, it didn't quit, but rather towed in the state it is in, a cabin cruiser, and tubes and skiers, with some flex, etc.

I will indeed got to the hull extension tonight, but my hope is that i can get some advice on this transom, maybe some jerry rigging tips, and in the off season, attend to the matter properly.
Here are some pics

Re: Transom pics-how do i rebuild?

Dan's site is the one that convinced me I could do this stuff. Before that it was all black magic as far as I could tell.

It's doable, quite fun and exciting too (maybe I'm just a freak)...

Anyway, look through Dan's site (he posted just before this one) and get familiar with the threads on this site. I'm about 1/2 way done and it's been going smooth so far. Some key people on this forum have saved us from mistakes and have helped us avoid doing useless work.

Good luck and keep everyone posted, lots of help available here...

My project has been on a Glastron/Carlson, a bit newer as we have an '88 Glastron/Carlson. Check out what we've done so far in the blog setup (see sig). Much like Dan's.
