1975 inline 6 mc drive, i have 49701 casting number on inside transom plate will mcm 79000 casting number transom plate fit in place of original plate

Casting #s are about the Worst way to ID a part...
Atleast here on the forum...

What did the 79000 Come From,..??

seller says 1980 vintage 120 mercruiser alpha stern drive, also looking at my transom plate exhaust pipe opening it is more like a square with slight curve on the bottom, other plate forsale is more like a funnel shape for exhaust pipe ,angled sides narrowing to bottom

Ayuh,...

I'm not exactly sure of When,...
But,..
Sometime around that vintage, the rear motor mounts went from 15" on center to 9" on center...

yeah the width is much wider than newer alphas models ,its just exhaust pipe opening has different shape when comparing the two, almost looks smaller than one i have because sides on my openiing are straight down and other one has angled sides for exhaust opening
