transom problem?

Just bought a 15' center console and the transom mount transducer is shot so I removed it only to find the two holes had moisture in them. I proceeded to remove everything else on the transom and its bone dry. I then drilled out the two wet holes with a larger bit and clean colored, moist wood came out. What should I do next? Does this boat need a complete transom replacement? Thanks ahead of time.

Re: transom problem?

Those holes were probably not sealed properly. If the transom is strong (test by using weight of motor plus your weight) you may be able to salvage the situation.

Dry the holes, Fill with epoxy and re-drill. Make sure you seal them up properly with 3m 4200 when the bolts get re-installed.
