I have a older house boat with a transom that is rotting.
Lucky for me there is a metal frame that wood is put into.

So even thought th wood is rotten It held up until i removed it last week.
Now I have to put a new piece of wood in the metal frame.
What kind of wood should I use and where do I find it?

The transom is 12 x 2 x 36.

Thanks.

Re: Transom Question

two ways.....

#1......pressure treated 3/4 inch ply...2 sheets laminated togeather with glass.

make sure the wood is bone dry......see if your local lumberyard has some....dry....or the resin wont stick.....

the thickness depends on the metal frame that goes around it....

#2....DISCLAIMER....i have not used this method... i do not KNOW if it will work in your situation.....

the seacast method.......its a pour in...check threads on seacast ans see if it will work in your situation

hope that helps

cheers

Re: Transom Question

Or use epoxy, and cover it with cloth, to build it out from 1 1/2" to 2".
Epoxy is more water-proof than f/glass.

Re: Transom Question

If you've already got a hollowed out transom, use seacast. It's great stuff and I think you'll find it very easy to use.
