Transom Repair again, new boat!

Well once again, I find myself in need of advise. I recently got this Western Aluminum 14CT boat, nice boat with one exception, the transom is in pretty bad shape, so I have been figuring the best way to get it out and put a new one in. I think at one time, this boat was overpowered and created some damage to the transom, then sitting for the last few years the wood has rotted out. As you can see in the pictures, the triangle bracket has broke, so I will need to remove it to fix this correctly. My question is, I need to drill flat rivets out and replace them, the rivets go through the hull, where can I get these flat rivets and what kind of tools do I need to reinstall them?

As you can see, the triangle bracket is broken, so I am either going to have to fix this one, or figure out a new one. Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Transom Repair again, new boat!

an idea is maybe to weld onto the existing bracket, adding strength to it,i just replaced my original transom with a new oak one. not sure, yours looks much larger, so cost could be a issue. use WHITE OAK ONLY...........

stuff you probably already know better than me :

Sand , etch, and repaint the bare aluminum behind the transom, and either epoxy the new board, or use SPAR urethane with 5 coats the new one before installation ............

you can use Marine Plywood, EXTERIOR grade plywood, but do NOT use Pressure treated wood at all............ the chemicals in pressure treated wood will eat at the aluminum and destroy it..........

Oh, and KEEP the plates off the old transom, the capacity plate looks in good shape and you will need to put it on the new one ........

it also looks like you will have to remove the caps off the aft of the boat and take of the aluminum flashing above the transom to get it out as well.............
