Transom Repair - hardware opinions

Looking for opinions. I need to replace the transom in my 89 Lowe Big Jon.

My question, rivets or stainless hardware??

I have easy access to all the stainless hardware needed to do the job, and can buy plastisol gaskets to put under the heads of the bolts. Bolts will be #10-25 button heads and planned on using nyloc 10-24 nuts.

As it stands right now I would have to purchase two different length rivets, not a big deal really, just stainless nuts/bolts are easier to work with.

Should I go with fasteners or rivets?? Thoughts?

Stainless and aluminum don't really play nice together, especially if your in salt or brackish water. I suggest rivets

Scott you have a very valid point. I had not thought of that. There will be no salt/brackish water as Im in IA.

All reality I am leaning toward the rivets, but just wanted to get some opinions.

Next question..... Crush Rivet or sealing pop rivet? Anyone?

I used blind solid rivets for a rivet gun for the transom repair on our Starcraft, but the floor was left in. If I were doing a complete gut and rebuild I would use the factory style blind rivets you use a bucking tool with. Either will do in my opinion. Make sure to coat the heads in some 3m 5200 before setting them.

Thank you! Appreciate it. Not new to replacing transoms, just know how much work its going to be and was looking for opinions/advice. Probably going to be a better part of a Saturday job.
