Transom Repair

I'm Replacing the transom on a 14' Lee Fiberglass Boat.Can someone please post some pictures on removing the old transom?.I'm having a hard time understanding how to remove the old transom.Do you cut the top of the transom out then remove all the old wood,or do you cut the back off the Boat out?.

If you plan on cutting anything then do it from the inside, not out. What do you plan on using for the repair???

Cut the layer of glass from the inside of the boat. This will give you access to the wood that makes up the transom. You don't want to cut the entire transom piece out as this can distort the hull when you go to reassemble the boat.

I used a big screwdriver and chisels to bust the old pieces of wood away from the fiberglass. I was lucky in that most of my transom came out in big pieces so I could use it as a pattern for the new one.

Take it out from the inside and leave the outer skin. It's easier to keep the boat from flexing that way. The deck can stay on too...cut the splashwell out and reglass it back after the transom is done.
