Has Anyone Ever Heard Of Or Used Nida-cores Pourable Transom Compound. I Found Them On The Web And Was Reading About There Sheets Of Honeycomb For Floors And Decks And Then Found There Pourable Transom Compound. I Sent Them A Couple Of Emails Yesterday And They Were Quick To Respond. They Told Me It Is Easier To Use Than Seacast And That Wellcraft Has Been Using This Product In There Transoms For The Last 50 Thousand Production Boats. There Product Is Also Considerably Cheaper Than Seacast Any Help Would Be Appreciated.

I don't think any of our members have posted anything about using it.
A bunch of us have used Seacast. It is super strong and solid as a rock.

Interesting company, I'm surprised I haven't read anything in these forums about their products before. I checked out the web site and downloaded the brochure It seems they've been around for awhile. The prices seem competitive, which is surprising. Usually the markup on products bought directly from the manufacturer is insane.

Something i noticed on their website was the use of it on boat floors and decks...I didn't see much about transom repair unless i did not find it.
I would want a sample to test before i trusted it to hold the motor on the boat.
The Seacast sample was impressive.Beat it,hammered it and tried everything to break it and it held up...That sold me on it.
With any pourable compound the prep work and making sure you don't have pockets of air in it is crucial.

Re: Transom Repair

Here's what I have for their pourable transom compound:

TRANSOM POURABLE CERAMIC COMPOUND (TPC)

Description: NIDA-CORE formulates its Ceramic Pourable Compound with premium polyester resins and high
strength ceramic spheres resulting in high tensile and flexural strength. This lightweight compound is ideal for
filling large volumes where strength and rigidity are major concerns. The NidaBond Ceramic Pourable Compound
mixes and pours easily from the 5-gallon pail.
Excellent rigidity and strength. Formulated with premium resins Low shrinkage and exotherm Low styrene content
Structural applications where high compressive strength is required 7 times better compression
strength than plywood!

From what I can tell, it's a poly resin impregnated with ceramic spheres of some sort. I do remember reading someplace that a few manufacturers were using a product like this for their transoms.

I've never priced it, but I am sure it's a viable option, it may even be easier to use than SeaCast but I don't know about it's strength.
If you decide to use it, maybe you could do some step by step photo's and a write up on it. I for one would be interested in it. Especially if its more cost effective than Seacast.

Re: Transom Repair with a few new pictures

i will be pulling the motor off this weekend and am wondering if anyone thinks that it will hurt it to leave it hanging from the engine hoist while I do the work on the boat or should I build a stand for the motor out of 2x6 boards

Re: Transom Repair

It won't hurt it to hang. Most people like to use some sort of stand to get it out of the way, and to make sure nothing bad happens like the hoist giving way. That's an expensive motor to drop :)

If you build a stand don't be afraid to waste some time on putting casters on it you'll be glad you did.

Re: Transom Repair

Sorry guys new to the site but not to boating i have been in this business for over 10yrs and i own my own business and do a ton of Glass repair including stringers and transoms and to be honest i have never seen any of the above listed stuff in any WELCRAFT boats and i have put in numerous transoms in all makes and models and the only way to fix the transom is to cut out the existing glass and wood and put new back in. Do not waste your time and hard earned money on the quick fix products. If the transom is roted then the moisture is still trapped between the glass layers and it needs to be removed

It looks similar to Seacast but I didn't see where they clearly listed the quantity it's sold in? The price is less than Seacast by a third but for how much?

If the price stated on the website is for 5 gallons, then it's definitely an option to consider. Seacast has been out of my price range, and considering that my labor vs. the $700 or more it would take to do a small transom with Seacast, I've stuck with plywood and the labor required. The biggest advantage though with any pourable or composite transom is longevity. I have to boats at hand here that have no other wood in them, so a poured transom would make them completely rot proof.

I used seacast. I'd say you're behind the times.
