I recently came across a thread in the boating questions forum dealing with a product other than seacast, nidabond or arjay, but can't find it again. any help anyone? It was available in 1 gal and 5 gal pails and they advertised a free sample I believe.

Re: transom repair

I have my transom wood removed and was saving the $$$ to buy Seacast. Now that I've looked over the website I might switch to nida-core since it's less than 1/2 the price of seacast. Has anyone worked with it & is it really as strong as seacast? I'll be using it on a 17' boat with either a 50hp or a 70hp on the back. Sorry for the hijack, but any answers I get should help others too.:D

Here's the transom:

Not to keep the hijack going, but doesn't nida-core bond to wood and seacast does not? That would be a major sell point for me.

I used the nida core and was very pleased with the results and it was considerably cheaper then seacast. The shipping was a little more than I thought it should be. When you order the nidabond you will have to oder MEKP from another company as they do not sell MEKP which is the activator. The MEKP was not that expensive I ordered it fiberglass supplier. I think It was FIBERGLASSIT. Over very easy to pour into the boat you don't have to beat on the back of the boat with a rubber mallet as you would with seacast. The stuff is thin enough that it just pours right in and self levels.

You will need to search under nidacore.com and go to the products menu. From there click on nidabond and then click transom compound. It also gives you the little drawing so you can figure out how much material you will need. I would not recommend leaving to much of the old wood in the transom. It will work much better with all the old wood out.

I find seacast sticks like stink to anything. Especially driveways, clothes, hair, arms, drills, you name it.
