I am about to repair/replace the transom on my 1986 2120 Robalo. Anyone have any experience good or bad using the Seacast Pourable Transom material?

Thanks

Bill, I will keep you posted once I decide which repair method to use. Also found information on fiberglass route at Rot Doctor.com. You might want to check it out.
Re: Transom Repair

I replaced the transom on a 20'Sportcraft last winter and it came out great. Boat had a liner and would have been a bear to split and replace with wood. Cut the top off the transom, chainsawed, chiseled, and vacuumed all the wood out and poured the Seacast. Fiberglassed over the transom top, replaced the trim piece over it and you could not tell I had been into it. Even doubled the stringers that tied into the transom though they seemed ok. Not cheap but I would do it the same way again in a minute. It seems sound as a tank.

Re: Transom Repair

I am considering, despite what I have read, removing and rebuilding the transom from the exterior. I would cut the exterior skin, have full access, remove all wood, then either pour the seacast, or rebuild wiht plywood and glass. The boat is a 1978 21' Robalo, and due to the construction there isnt any way to access the inside skin without tearing the entire boat apart. I am guessing that prior to cutting the exterior skin I would have to somehow re0enforce the boat to be sure it mainatians shape throughout the repair. Has anyone rebuild a transom in this fashion? any suggestions?

Bill

On the Boat Design forum a restorer of boats said they would not send him any performance data to make a decision on using it.

LATXCAJUN, I am very interested in your process, I live only about 30-45 mins from you in Taylor. Let me know what you use, maybe we could work together?
