Stringers transom and deck. Not sure of actual square footage but the deck is 53" from the stern till it starts to curve in for the bow. The boat is 16 ft. I can measure the sq footage tomorrow.

Re: Transom replacement 1972 16' sportcraft C-Gull

Finally, I am finished grinding!!!!!! I am building a cradle now, I know now I should have done that first but at the time I pulled my stringers out I didn't . Hope it's not too late. Also on the transom I had to grind away alot more on the port side to get to good glass than I did on the starboard side. So my transom skin thickness has abou 1/8ths difference from one side to the other. I don't want the transom skin to look warped when I glue it to the transom. Any tips on how to even it out. I thought maybe I would glue the transom in with PB and clamp it so I have even pressure all the way across and let the PB make up the difference. Will that work? Thanks.

Yes adding additional PB to the transom install should do the trick. Make sure and do some dry runs on the install so you have the routine down. You only get one shot once the PB is mixed.;)

Thanks WOG i didnt think of that .Doing some dry runs is a good idea to get the placement of the clamps and everything figured out. I would definitely have some serious problems if I just tried to glue it in without some practice.

I Finished the cradle. I am on an uneven surface so I built a box and drove 2x4 stakes into the ground leveled the box and screwed it to the stakes. Then I put the bunks on to the box.

I had to adjust the outer bunks a little after putting the hull on it. I also added bunks to the Chines because the hull was flexing a lot. I also added some blocking under the keel at the bow because my cradle is a little short. The only thing that worries me is the hull looks a little bit twisted at the bow.

If it 'looks' twisted, you should spend some time deciding it does or doesn't & try to adjust (modify) the cradle to correct it. Cross ties to keep the hull gunwales from sagging away from each other would be a good idea too. And may help solve the twist.

Once adjusted, a quick cap refit to confirm it's gonna fit, then block the cradle box to make sure 1 2X4 stake doesn't sink anymore & re-twist the hull..

Is there any way to tell for sure if there is a twist in and where the twist is other than eyeballing it?

Did you ensure the cradle was level Port to Starboard and Stern to Bow? If so, then lay some straight 2x4's across the top and down the center line. If its all level at multiple points then it can't be twisted.

Thanks fstorm.

Well today I glued the transom wood together. This was my first time mixing resin and PB. I was sooooo nervous about it. I was worried about doing it right. I used 1 quart of PB. I spread it on with a 3/8 v-notch trowel. I only spread it on one piece. Now I'm thinking I should have put it on both pieces. It was a thick coat though and I got Gould squeeze out during screwing. I'm also worried about my mixture, I checked on it an hour later and it was still pretty sticky.

What were the temps? How much MEKP did you use.

Around 70 degrees. I mixed one pint at a time using 1/8 ounce which is what the directions said to use. I just checked it and its been about 2 1/2 hours and it does seem to be setting some but still very sticky.

That should be about right. Get it out in the Direct sunlight tomorrow and I bet she'll be fine.

Will do. Thanks WOG.

It seemed like it took like 8hrs for mine at 70 degrees. I'm sure some sunlight will do wonders. I did most of mine in the the winter time at just above mininmal temps. I did everything I could do and came back the next weekend and everything was cured. That's why it took me so long on top of being a newbie at glassing so everything I did was new even if I didn't have issues to deal with.
