i just removed the transom from my early 90's quicksilver 11'. i have a 15hp merc for it, and it seems a great match.

i am trying to rejuvenate this thing. I would like to put a replacement transom in. The old one is 1", and the lower 1/3 is pretty wet. The cuffs and the floor material are in great shape.

I have transom braces that bolt to the floor, and a stainless steel plate that wraps the transom under the motor.

Any suggestions on how to build a new one?

Re: transom replacement

I build transoms from 3/4" Marine ply epoxied into one 1 1/2" thick piece that is tougher than any single cut of wood. Stained and epoxy coated, it will last a lifetime.

Re: transom replacement

Chris...,

Lots of info here, do a search on transom replacement. In the mean time, like pogo said, marine ply and epoxy will make a very strong transom. I used layers of 1/2" with a layer of glass between each one on my 18 ft. Just make sure you use good wood (marine ply has no voids in it like regular ply).

Some pictures would be nice to get a better idea of what you are up against.

Peace.

Ed.
