Hello,
We are going to Lake Raystown in PA this weekend, which for us is a four hour drive. I plan on trailering the boat up there too. Besides using a transom saver, is there anything else I can do to protect the transom from the weight of the motor on rough and bumpy roads?

Thnaks,
Tom

Secure the boat to the trailer real well. Thats about it, and should be enough.

The bumpier the roads, the more often you should stop and check your load, tie-downs, transom saver, bearings, etc. I usually do a walk-around at every rest area or fuel stop, feel your bearings for overheating. Good Luck!

If you have any flex in your transom, it's rotten and needs to be replaced. A motor ripping off going down the road is only slightly more ugly than one ripping off on the water.

Where are you from SF? I was really hoping to make it to Raystown this year but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Definitely next year.

Use a good strong piece of rope and go from one rear corner of the trailer to the other while having the rope go over your lower unit helps. I trailer mine alot on gravel roads out in the country and have found this really keeps the motor still. However investing in a transom save will also do you wonders in the long run.

Long as you make sure the boat doesn't move on the trailer in addition to the transom saver I wouldn't worry a bit. If your nose strap doesn't keep the nose from going up and down on the really big bumps I'd use a ratchet strap to hold it down on the trailer. And like said above if your transom flexes at all it's just a matter of time before it fails completely. Could be a couple years or a couple minutes from the first time it flexes.

Try driving at a slower speed.
