Transom saver installation question

Hello
My trailer is a bunk style trailer. I bought the standard transom saver for that style of trailer. It appears that the transom saver is still too short. How far up should I tilt the motor. I am concerned that the skeg will drag the ground if I use it at even the longest position. Typically how far up should I tilt the motor? It looks like I need to put some sort of spacer on the crossbar or else put a crossbar towards the rear end of the bunks and attach the transom saver there. That would have the added advantage of not having me crawl so far under the boat to put the pin in the transom saver. Any comments?

If I remember correctly, the one I had locked in place on the trailer with a twist so you don't have to crawl down there. You might want to verify that.

agree with bhile -

terry- i use the same setup purchased at Cabela's. i installed mine way back on the trailer for the very reason you state. if your existing trailer has bolts used to hold the eyelets for the transom safety straps. you might be able to use them as i did to anchor the savers metal base. my O/B is tilted pretty high up to miss dragging the skeg.

Mine is the long adjustable type with a fork on each end.
One for the motor and one goes on the rear center roller.
