Hi gang,

I'm about to take delivery on my first new boat. Hurricane 202 FDGS with Yamaha F150 four stroke. My previous boat had Alpha I gen II drive, so now with my first outboard I'm curious if I should get a transom saver, or are the stock Yamaha hydraulics strong enough for support while trailering?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Transom saver on new boat?

you are not supporting the motor as much as you are relieving some of the stress off of the transom when using a transom saver.

The manual on my 2004 F90 says to use a transom bar if you can't trailer it w/ the tilt all the way down... My buddy's trailers his suzuki w/ the tilt up but still in the low range.

Re: Transom saver on new boat?

This has been discussed a lot, and I side with the camp that says you don't need a transom saver to save your transom. No need to repeat it now.
However, on the larger engines such as yours ( I have one) I wouldn't trust the motor's small tilt bracket on a bumpy ride, and i don't think bumps would be good for your hydraulics alone, either. So I'd block it up (be careful about the right side and PTT fittings) or if you use the bracket, have the PTT still engaged just under it, so if the bracket slips or fails the motor won't crash down.
Your tilt bracket is just one side. I've been trailering a 70 OMC for 20 years, bumpy 160 mile rounds trips, on the bracket no problem--but it's a smaller motor and the bracket is on both sides.
