Mine has a rounded part that fits over the rear most roller. The part that fits over the roller had a cable that wraps around the roller to keep the saver from pulling off the roller on a big bump. All the weight of my motor rests on the saver because I don't have pt&t. On my saver, the motor is strapped into the yoke of the transom saver.

The best way is to have the trailer end mounted to either a roller or a bracket.

The outboard end should be mounted under the cav. plate.

In either case, make sure the enine still has weight on the saver.

I ALWAYS bungee cord the engine to the bracket-on both ends.

Re: Transom Savers, How Do You Mount ?????

I installed mine this weekend due to the tilt lock bracket snapping (our boat has no e-tilt). We have no rollers, and the only crossmembers are for the adjustable rolling assembly, so I attached a roller bracket upside down to the rolling assemble, and put the transom saver on that. Put a bungee cord around the motor attached to teh saver.

I highly recommend using a motorcycle-type tie down strap from one transome tie down (on the trailer), over the motor, to the other transom tie down (again, on the trailer), to keep the motor from bouncing up. Since our tilt lock bracket is busted, and I didnt have that strap I was just talking about, our motor bounced in such a way that the trailer end of the saver bounced out of its roller, dropping the motor, and bending the saver.

The object of the transom saver is to prevent upward as well as downward movement of the engine so fastening both ends securely at the lower unit and the trailer is the answer. No movement is good. Any movement is bad. In your case since you don't have T&T, perhaps short tie-down straps would be a better choice than bungies. They would allow no movement. But then a very tightly bound bungie would be ok too.

Think carefully before lashing your lower unit to the trailer or the boat...when my trailer liberated itself from the tow vehicle awhile back, the impact of the trailer tongue with the pavement caused the boat to move forward about six inches, bow stop and all. The transom saver forced the motor to tilt up. Luckily the emergency relief valve in the tilt hydraulics functioned normally so nothing was damaged. Might've been a different story if the motor had been strapped down.

BTW, yes, it should carry the weight of the motor.

Fortunately it went up and not straight forward. Without the transom saver I bet you would be looking at some lower unit repairs as it would have likely struck the rear cross member. Then there are just some things that you can't predict or prepare for.
