I trailer a 13ft inflatable with a 20 HP outboard. Should I use a transom saver to help alleviate stress on the transom?

Re: Transom Savers

Transom savers don't take weight off the transom.
It will keep the lower unit from accidentally hitting something and possibly screwing up the skeg or transom.
I have one on my aluminum boat just for that reason.

bkatz .. What brand boat is it? is it a RIB? Some mfg of inflatables (non RIB) do not recommend trailering with the motor mounted on the boat. I would check with you mfg 1st. Make sure you have the boat strapped down tight to the trailer and watchout for bumpy roads!! The more that motor bounces the more force is put on the transom ...

Re: Transom Savers

I tow my inflatable down all sorts of rough roads, dirt roads and beaches. I tilt my outboard to get better ground clearance while towing. The tilted motor leverages on the transom considerably and bouncing along will create a lot of dynamic loading. I use a transom saver to minimize the loading and you can see the difference in motion when it is installed.

If you carry your outboard vertically aligned a transom saver isn't going to help, but you might strap the motor to the boat to keep it secured tightly. Be sure to watch the dips and bumps so you don't pimp your case!

transom savers does keep stress off the transom, it is def needed as it can rip out the transom depending on the road ..... If i didn't have mine I would have had to take my motor off to and from every race .....
