Ayuh,.... Generally speakin', the failure of that seal is caused by a Rotten Transom....
Actually changin' the seal is a tiny part of a Much Bigger operation....
Either way, it starts with pullin' the drive, then the motor, 'n finally the transom assembly....
which is a Good days work in a well equiped shop, 'n 2 men...
thanks i got a quote for three shop hrs plus part just didnt know if that was appropriate. if i look for the parts myself is there a name for those parts collectively.
thanks alot. no problem with the wording just wasnt sure what the right kit was. i will get the bearing check and u joints as well. i going to do both sides if the price is right. anyone use after market parts or should i stick with genuine parts?
To get the right parts you need to know if you have an alpha 1 or an alpha 1 generation 2. There is a lot of controversy here on the OEM verses aftermarket parts . I've used Sierra parts for twenty some years and like the fit and quality. They are usually about 2/3 the price of OEM. They have the kit with or without the Gimbel bearing depending on what you need.
That said, you can't beat the fit of OEM part if you don't mind the price.
