Transom shield replacement

I'm replacing my transom shield or mounting collar on my fiberglass house boat and wonder if I should use a silicone sealer or water proof with my shield o-ring and mounting bolts rubber rings(6)?

Got a picture? If the transom has wood, I'd coat any of it you can get to with a good epoxy. Silicon is not a permanent solution, period.

Thank you for your reply. I think I've found a answer. If the Fiber glass and transom are in good sound condition,I can use a good grade marine cauk along with the mounting o-rings and gaskets for the transom plate.

Thanks for the product info. I'll go out shopping for a cauk made by 3M #4200.
