Quick question. I had stopped in a boat resoration shop nearby. These guys are amazing!! Pretty much the only shop in our state that does full restores. Anyhow, he told me in passing my transom should be 1 1/2 inches thick. Not really sure if I heard him right? Is this an exact thicknes or can it vary +- an 1/8? Sounds odd to me you can be exact after glassing it in and what not? Oh, the shop is called "Fountain of Youth for boats" near me in North Prarie WI. Not sure if they have a web site or not. Cool shop though!

Re: transom thickness

yes the core of the transom should be 1 1/2 inches thick. this can be accomplished by using 2 layers of 3/4 inch ply, or 3 layers of 1/2 inch ply. then glass it. the measurement are not exactle 3/4 or 1/2 inch, as they have lost some surface in sanding and smoothing. 1/2 inch is like 15/32.
