Transom "thumb screw" thread spec

I searched the web and found the thumb bolts from Mercury, but I can't find the specifications on the bolts. I don't want to buy the actual thumb screws used to mount the motor to the transom. I just want to know the specs on the bolt threads so I can go buy one locally that will work.

my motor is bolted to the boat with four bolts, it isn't actually using this location to secure the motor to the boat. I'd like to add these two bolts though because my boat is fiberglass and I just feel like there will be less opportunity for the motor to flex (it doesn't appear too) if I put these bolts in. I'm probably being overly cautious but hey, bolts are cheap. I am just going to put a plate along my transom and get a bolt that is the right length to thread through the clamp and secure against the plate.

it is a 1999 Mercury 40HP ELPTO.

Thanks!

The current 4 bolts are more then enough to hold the Motor to the boat, even the Biggest of the 6 and 8 Cylinder Outboards only used 4 bolts

I'm really being that paranoid? I was concerned it may be a problem to have that gap there. My boat didn't come with the motor originally. It used to have a clamp on 25 HP. I mounted this one using quality hardware and everything I just wasn't sure if I had to (or should) have those two transom clamps as well.

Here the Motor is being held about 1 1/4" or so higher than the transom, just clamped on by the 4 bolts merc84f.jpg
