Transom top edge seal

I am replacing the transom on a 14' Wizard runabout, 35hp Johnson. I left the outside skin and will laminate two layers of 3/4" plywood. The old transom plywood came up to the top of the outside skin and had a thin glass layer over on the top, but not wrapping over the skin. I think this was one cause for water getting into the old transom and rotting it out. How does one seal off the top of the plywood? Should I hold it down 1/8", or so and fill it up flush with thick resin and glass? There is no aluminum strip cover for the transom edge.

You might could just caulk the top of it, and put a piece of Al. angle stock as trim on the top rather than 'glass it. It looks good, works, and is how newer boats are done.

I screwed up on mine and built the new ply and inter, outer fibergless to be even. I had a hard time making the top look good so I started over.<br />I took my circular saw and after checking the depth 10 times took off the top 1/8 of the ply and inside skin leaving the outside raised. then i put a layer of fiberglass mat over the inside and over the top. I then put 3 coats of just rosin on the top.
