Transom underway, deck removal?

Well, its that time I guess. I removed my motor today (hope I remember how to get it back on) with hopes of getting started on the transom. I have a 1976 17.5' bass boat desperately needing a new transom. After removing the motor, I decided I would try and avoid any cutting. I began taking the trim piece off the boat(the part that goes over where the hull and deck connect). Do I need to remove the whole deck? Or could I just lift it about halfway, brace it and do the transom from there. Aslo, is the floor all part of the deck? In other words if I lift the deck off is the floor going to be attached, or do I need to remove that also. Thanks for the help. I can post pics if needed.

Re: Transom underway, deck removal?

Do I need pics or what?? Someone out there can help me figure out how to lift the deck off?? I believe it is a "shoebox" fit. I took the rubber railing off, and the top deck overlaps the hull. You can see the caulk, which I have scraped most off, but it is VERY tight and difficult to lift off. I am hoping to lift just the rear a few inches. Just enough to pull the old transom out, and stick a new one in. Thanks for any help and advice.

It's a slow day on the forum Tipitina. Be patient. It probably would not hurt to post some pictures. They are worth a thousand words, you know. I'm not the expert on load carrying transoms but someone will respond.

The procedure is going to depend on how the boat was made. We can't tell without a picture. Whatever do not cut the ouside skin of the transom. The job is done from the inside.
