i am about to purchase a pair of perception rambler tandem kayaks, and would like to know the best way to transport them on a roof rack. each is 13' 6" long, 34" wide, and weighs 74 lbs. i have a 2005 Pathfinder (aka typical mid-sized suv), and would like to now if it is possible to transport two of these puppies together on its roof rack. specifically, what kayak rack brand and model would best suit this particular situation? my paranoid personality is especially worried about the extra stress that such racks may experience on highways from the wind due to the kayak's rather large profile. i have heard some sporadic, yet consistent, reports about kayak racks giving way during transport, and would really like to avoid this at any cost, even if it means overpaying for something that would give me nearly 100% reliability as well as piece of mind. lastly, i understand that transporting two of these monsters is probably best left for dedicated trailers. but i would like to exhaust all of my options before i blow another $1500 on a used trailer on craigslist.
thank you for your time.
