I am a new boater and I need to know if any movement is normal for the trasem. I have a 1977 Starcraft Super Sport 18 footer with a Johnson 140 ob. Under full power the trasem flexes out away from the boat. If it needs to be repaired, how?

Re: trasem problem???

Do a search in the Boat Restoration and Building forum (use the red search button) and search for transom rot

It sounds as if your transom could be rotten inside.

I had this problem on a '68 Mark Twain runabout and the fiberglass holding the motor on broke. Could have lost the motor.

If the transom flexes a lot, it could break off, sinking the boat or, at the very least dropping your motor to the bottom of the lake/river/ocean/bay/whatever.

Good luck!
