Hi,

I'm preparing my freshly rebuilt 1980 Evinrude 25 hp for use on the boat. I have an OMC remote in the boat with two wires, for shift and trottle. The engine did not have the fasteners for the wires so I bought a pair. They did not come with screws so I wonder what the tread size and pitch in the holes is. Im talking about the fasteners that hold the adjuster wheel on the wires.

Thanks,
Bjorn

Hi Bjorn....we'll try to help ya' out here. I'm not real sure to what you are referring to sooooo,

At the engine, there should be an anchor bracket on each side of the engines lower pan. One is for the throttle cable on the port side and the other anchor the shift cable, on the starboard side. The adjusting trunion on each cable, looks like a large thumb wheel, fit into the anchor slots and are held in place by a tab on the anchor bracket. The tab is held in place by a screw.

At the throttle side, the casing guide on the end of the control cable, slips over the throttle control post, alittle *** sticking up, bout' halfway back and to the bottom of the pan, and is held in place by a keeper.

At the gear shift handle, you will notice a slotted hole. The casing guide on the shift cable should have a pin with a small pin through it. The pin goes through the gear shift handle hole and turns. The small pin holding it in place.

It's really hard to put all this in words....pictures are much better. If you have a dealership close, I would take the rig there and see if they can point you in the right direction.

Thank's OBJ,

It's the screws that hold the anchor brackets I need to get. I bought the brackets, the cheaper Teleflex version. But I did not get screws to mount them and I could not find any fitting ones in my drawers.

I found fitting screws now, kinda emberrasing to find they were metric and I have lots of them. I hadn't tried metric as everything else seems to be SAE on this engine.
It's M5 actually.

The threads are probably American SAE threads Pike..not metric. And I believe the OEM brackets are SAE Fine threads (the are called National Fine over here). Don't really know about the Tele-flex versions. Maybe the dealership can help?

Anyway they're on tight with M5 screws so all is fine.

Come to think of it I'm not absolutely sure the are M5 anymore. I took them out of a box with an assortment of screws that I think all is metric. Anyway they fit perfecly.
