I am replacing my carpet at the same time as having my transom worked on by a fiberglass shop, he offered to roll a layer of somthing on the wood .........is there any thing any one can think of that would help it not rot while its still healthy ,[ that could be done while at the glass shop]...

posting some pics might help, hopefully its not raw plywood which might indicate someone put new wood over the top of a weak floor

Maybe just use some marine bilge paint? its hard to tell without seeing it. I belive bilge paint in and of itself is a type of sealant. After my floor is done, I will be painting it with some some type of paint sealant for sure.

I used that pick up bed spray on liner you can get anywhere, in the rear bilge area of mine, and that stuff is really tuff so far. At some of the larger NAPA's you can get colors, but under carpet it doesnt really matter. I'm sure there are things to do, but this stuff is 6 bucks a can and really strong once cured.
