When I scraped all the old paint off the outside of the hull using a new type, water-based, paint remover, I then used a clear-penetrating-epoxy-sealer. It is a two part, mixed 1:1, and is water thin. You just brush it on till the wood will not absorb any more then you are done. The cambium layer of the wood, this is the layer that will develop dry-rot, turns to glass basically then all dry-rot present is killed and no more will start.
I also buffed all the old clear coat off the inside structure and coated it with the same material. This also leaves a hard, shiny surface and when used on Mahogany it really pops the grain out. Then give trim wood surfaces a coat or two of a dura-tuff clear coat which helps prevent UV damage.
