Re: tri hull dangers

having spent a good part of my life in flat-hull boats, I think the severity of the rise on rough waters is exaggerated. As I said before, if it were that bad, Whaler would not be in business, nor would its hulls be copied everywhere. Yes there's a difference. The suspension in a Jeep CJ is rougher than a Camry; a F150 is bumpier than a Cadillac. But not to the point of being unusable. And the counter to the exaggeration is also false: a V is not smooth in choppy water--at least not under 25'.

Re: tri hull dangers

After reading all these posts I have something to add and also this is my first post on this forum. Hi folks! My wife and I bought a beautiful 1973 15.5' Crestliner Muskie last Summer and we basically spent every weekend on it till the weather got cold. On one trip to Eastern Washington we went to Banks Lake. I dunno if anyone on here has ever been to Banks Lake but to summarize it Id call it a large lake so its prone to a pretty good amount of chop. I had 4 adults in the boat and I was going about 30mph through the chop and I had noticed one thing different to my usual experiences driving other boats. This boat even with everyone in it stayed right on top of the water. This of course caused the boat to launch a few times and scare some of the passengers. After being on a 32' Sunsation Dominator while it went breach from a rogue wave and we were doing 80mph I would say I felt more comfortable on my Muskie then I was that day on the Sunsation. As others have mentioned before though its all about knowing your machine and how to drive it. The driver of that Sunsation was learning how to use his new toy and since then its been 12 years and now he owns a 47' Fountain Lightning. No more breaching issues or worries. Gotta learn the limits of your toys before you can push them. Best thing to do is stay within your comfort level and remember hitting the water at 35-40mph feels like hitting the pavement at that speed. Nobody wants that.
