Does anyone know approximate weights of old tri hull boats, with trailer? I'm looking at O/B models, 17', 19', 20' and don't want to buy more than I can tow with my current Ford Freestar. (It tows my 15' tri hull just fine, almost effortlessly.)

Look it up on nadaguides .com There are so many models there will probably be a spread from a 17 footer to some 19 footers of almost 1000 lbs.

My 16' Glastron with 70hp Evinrude and single axle gator trailer weighs in at 1600 lbs. You can normally get a free weigh in at any ag store or some truck stops that have scales. By the way, it was built in 1977 so I don't know if that is old or ancient.

Interesting - according to NADA, the i/o's weigh about 500-600 lbs. more than o/b hulls -- which, I guess, makes sense, considering the much heftier engine /drive weight.

Most o/b hulls of 15-18' were in the 1300-1700 lb range, although some were under 1000 lbs. Interesting! Of course, you add an o/b, trailer and gear and it all adds up pretty quickly!

My old 16.5' SeaSwirl tri-hull with a 140HP I/O and heavy trailer weighed 3200# at the scales,,, but it had lots of soaked foam :D About 2 X what my dad's 70's 15' tri-hull with a 65HP outboard weighed.

Re: Tri Hull Weight?

I have been reading on the "newboatbuilders" page and I did the calculations for my 15ft tri-hull and integrated the 80hp motor. I am required to put 8 cubic feet of foam to support the boat and an additional 4 cubic feet to support my motor..... Does that sound right? 12 cubic feet of foam in total, if so.... basically my whole boat has to be foamed then. Let me know if this sounds right or I messed up on my calculations. Thanks
