Trick way to stash anchor rope?

OK so I'm tweaking out my 12' basic Sea Nymph. The is a bare-bones boat: hull and 3 bench seats, that's it.

I have two 10 lb mushroom anchors, one bow and one stern for inland lake fishing.
I'd like to make them easier to handle, so I have ordered two of these & a pulley/guide to run the bow anchor rope back to my position at the rear of the boat.

I have 50' of rope on each anchor, and have been wondering what's a good way to spool it up or something inside the boat without taking up too much space. I should also mention I'd like to spend as little money as possible. ;)

Thanks!

One of the items mentioned above may work if you have a place to mount it.

Neatly coiled line will ball up and snag when you try to deploy it. As you bring it into the boat, let it drop straight down into a bucket or box. That's the way anchor rode is stored in larger boats that have an anchor locker for that purpose.

Mesh bags work well for holding the rode as it falls free into the bag, they aren't rigid so they may take up less space as well. The mesh allows the water to drain out and aid drying the line.

I could show you how to flake down a coil, not to be confused with faking a line, but darn if I can explain it. If you happend to see the hand coiling competition on Deadliest catch and noticed that Phil Harris got chastised for having not a pretty coil. His coil was flaked and was the correct way. He made a comment about that in "After the Catch". Anyway, once you learn the basics of it you can do it really quick and the line will always come off the coil clean an untangled.

A lot of sail-boaters just take a 5 gallon bucket, and drill a bunch of 2" holes in it, and then just drop the line into the bucket as they retrieve it. When you do that it usually comes out the same way it went in.

On a boat that small space is at a premium. If not small buckets, try small "duffle" bags although they will get funky holding wet line all the time.
For the pulleys, on sailboats there are simple "cam cleats" for holding line, which may be handy for holding the anchor up.

On larger boats people sometimes use hose reels, including the ones in a box. Not for you, though.

I have the same boat and use a milk crate. I also throw my lights and drink in it.

AHA! I just had a great idea... thanks!

So...what was your idea?....I have a tangled mess at times too....

I like the idea of the milk crate .....that might be just the perfect size....

OH...and how were the BALLONS this year in good old BC.....

I daisy chain my line. It cuts over all length in half or better and is nice and neat. Dries well while chained, tangle free, and easy to tie off with a cleat for anchor storage or depth setting so u don't have 50 ft out when you only need 34.

I use a simple plastic bucket. Easy to move around and handle and keeps the mud off of the deck.

Milk crates. Find a buddy at a grocery store and then it won't cost anything.
