Will a V-6 trigger assembly work on a 3 cylinder? One has 7 wires and one has 4 wires? I doubt it, but I have one from my black max project. The 3 cylinder is a 60 hp and the V-6 is a 135 hp. It's Sunday and can't get parts.

Re: Trigger assembly

Never tried it before but if it fits it just might work. I would think (guessing) that the difference would be in the magnets in the flywheel. The V6's go actually two sets of trigger magnets oriented in opposite polarity, so that in the first 180 1,2,3 charge and in the second 180 4,5,6 charge. There might be clearance differences but since the trigger voltage is only about 2v it should only be a problem if, 1. it doesn't fit or 2. Theres a huge gap.

Don't try and start it, just crank it and check the timing on all three cylinders and see what you get.:)

Re: Trigger assembly

Thanks after looking at it another problem. The linkage for the spark advance is missing also. I tried to look it up and order one but NLA no longer available. I'm back at square one. I might try and fabricate a linkage for it, all I can do is try. Or find a junk merc 60 hp some where and rob it. This motor is in overall good shape all three cylinders were 150 psi exactly. I give a benjamin franklin for it and a foot controlled trolling motor couldn't pass it up.

Sounds like a heck of a deal.. Have you tried Bill Kelly at Master Tech Marine. www.mastertechmarine.com He might just have that part. He's been known to come up with some off the wall stuff and save the day!
