trigger/timer base problems?

On an 87' gt200. Ive noticed when I start it up that sometimes it'll run on one bank. Then after a few seconds the other bank will fire. And it keeps repeating itself. Sometimes that bank will keep firing and sometimes it just keeps going back and forth. I the only ign parts that aren't new is a powerpack and the timer base. The guy that had it before me put a stator and volt reg on it. And I put a power pack on it. Any thoughts?

i would suspect the hall sensors , in the timer base , you can test them they are very sensitive , just find the wire that is connected in series with all the sensors that one will be the common then place 1 end of your tester on it then the other end on anyone of the other wires turn the flywheel in a clockwise direction by hand , when the line comes up to the sensor witch is in the inner diameter of the flywheel the needle on your meter will move , if it doesn't move , that sensor got trouble , do this with all the other remaining wires but keep the tester on the common ,

Have you checked the shift assist switch? What it does is kill one bank of cylinders for a moment as you shift out of gear. If it sticks it can drive you crazy trying to figure out what's going on. You should be able to disconnect it and tell real quickly if that's the problem.

Is it always the same bank that isn't firing ?? Or do they alternate ??

I've checked the shift assist. It has a broke wire and the diode is melted so I know it doesnt work. I'm not sure if it alternates, it was just so noticeable last time I was able to check it. Ill try to check the hall senors. Halls have magnets don't they. Does voltage already run through that circuit or does it generate volt or is it just like an on/off switch? I'm hopin this is why it boggs down for no reason when I go to plane out. Thanks

i know on my 70hp one wire comes from power pack & connects in series to all 3 sensors the other 3 wires come individually from each sensor this tells me that there is only a positive going through the sensor & no negative as it rotates on that nylon bush , that also tells me there is no negative so its not a switch as such . the magnetic field gets interrupted every time the line on the flywheel passes through the sensor , iam no expert with this i just Fidel around & get a solution .
so you motor is wired 3 wires for port side & 3 wires starboard side & one of the 3 wires on each side is the common the other 2 are for the plugs that also go into power pack

I unplugged the power packs today and probed the white wire to the green,purple, and blue. Turned the flywheel by hand. None of them were the same?

Also. I took it out tonight and it only bogged down twice! Ran decent but I still could get above 4200rpms? Ive put a 21 prop on it n gotten to 4500. That's it? Maybe 60psi compression is why?
