Re: trihull design

Your scout is a copy of a whaler hull, look at a boston whaler a very stable boat that looks more like a trihull in all sizes from the 13' to the 20+ feet althoug more v like in the bigger boats. Whalers hull remains virtually unchanged for 20 or more years, Carolina Skiff has tried to copy it and scout i think with there new boats (the DLX) series i think in the last couple of years.

I don't know? It don't look much like any whaler I've seen. But like I said, there not that many around my parts.

Any 1973 boat is a question of water saturated foam, stringers, and transom.

Most likely it is in the category of total rebuild, but it could be pristine.

The only way to tell, is to drill!!

Re: trihull design

I am going to start on this tri-hull shortly. I just got it on a trailer.

Any opinions on the potential characteristics of the hull?

Did I see that boat on eBay a few weeks ago?

Re: trihull design

I have a car as a tow vehicle so it limits the size of my boats. I had a '69 15ft Glastron V-hull with a 65HP Mercury and that boat flew. The only problem was stability. The boat would lean one direction or another. Sometimes I'd have to tell people to move. It was rated for a 90 HP.
Then I was given a 15ft Glaspar Tri-Hull for free. I moved my Merc 65 to it and it jumped out of the water quicker but the high end speed was slower. Probably because of it being a heavier boat. It was a lot more stable in choppy water. I've been 5 miles from the shore on Lake Ontario and it was pretty smooth. This boat is rated for 115 HP so I upgraded to a 100HP Johnson. This little boat screams now.

wow, i didn't realize that there are so many tri hull owners. sweet. i use mine on a small lake that can get up to two or three foot swells. she handles decent, just a little rough. i had to tighten the windshield bolts down a bit more. but a very stabile boat. i wouldnt trade her for anything. good luck with it.
