I have a B3 that I have been having corrosion problems with when in a slip (freshwater) last year. I think I figured out my problem. I forgot to hook the ground cable back to the inner transom plate.

I am planning to install new bonding cables and paint the outdrive with Trilux 33 that I have. The label says its developed for aluminum, but on the label it lists "Copper as metallic 8.85%" I have read great reviews online about it, but the copper part concerns me. Will it be safe to use?

Also, should I install the bonding cables first, then paint over them? Or paint the drive first then put the cables on?

The bonding cables should make good electrical contact either way. Go ahead and put them on first.

I paint every year with Trilux 33 outdrive paint. (salt water) it is all good. Make sure you have the proper anodes for freshwater and that the Mercathode is working properly. If you have the older style B3, there is a retrofit kit to add the prop anode.

You can also paint the propellers with cold galvanizing (zinc) spray, which will add 'weak' metal right at the major source of the 'stronger' metal.

I have also used Trilux on Alpha 1 OD in salt water. It works well. Reading the label shows that the OEM wants a good primer and paint coat to protect the aluminum from the Trilux.

Thanks for the info. I have read lots of good reviews about the trilux but the copper on the label threw me off. The outdrive was already painted with some kind of antifouling paint when I purchased it 2 years ago. I do have some raw aluminum showing through where the corrosion was taking place though so I guess I won't just paint it with the trilux. I have have the older style B3 but bought new zincs and mercathode kit.

I switched painting the out drive to interlux Pacifica, I have found it much better.
