One button is down. The middle one is trim, it stops at a predetermined height which is the highest you should have it while underway. The trailer button raises it to the upper limit.
I don't even run mine above the trim limit, though I have seen it said that you can do that at very low rpms.
To use the trim: For takeoff and lower speeds have it all the way down. For higher speeds raise the trim to lift the boat's nose. Less wetted area needs less power so as you raise the drive you will feel the boat pick up speed to a point. You will find that the trim requires subtle corrections to keep things working right, but that's part of the fun of it.
If you trim too high the prop can lose bite. Don't allow that because overspeeding the motor can break it. Also on many boats trimming really high will induce porpoising, a rythmic bouncing. If you get those results lower the drive to get things back where you like it.
