Hi, i have a 92 force motor/40 horse. i had trim and tilt installed on this motor just recently with new pump and cylinder, hoses, ect.
The guy that did it said he could get all the air bubblies out or something that he couldnt explain. The motor at the time would raise up real good, but when it hit top you hear a hissing noise like there air in it. ON the way down the motor hesitates all the way, being jumping at times to going down nomally.
Since i had this outfit put on i had other problems, my swithbox went out when i took my dad on a big trip. We ended up in Pierre SD getting it replaced at Dano's marine. After the guy put the new switch on, seems like the trim and tilt really got buggy. It work at time's and other time's it wouldnt work, when working it do the same hestitation bullpoop as before. Looking at the wiring it's all good, i even replaced the wires going to the the relays. I only have 3 possible things that I think might be wrong with that power trim and tilt.
1. Im having problems with stator/switchbox at this time again. I have believe i blown another switchbox cauzed my a module that is not reducing amps from my red stator to the switchbox.
2. The relays are bad. One of them does seem to have a connector that has been burnt, but remember the system still works at times
3. The top seal in the cylinder is not sealing right, cuazing the oil to overflow in the down position to the outer casting of the cyclinder.

Oh one more thing, i releive pressure of the fill cap on the pump, the motor will go down a little bit then quit, then I have to relieve the fill cap again to get it to come down a little more, until motor completely down. But it will go up okey.

Any suggestions? where can start?

mike

Re: trim and tilt help!!

Check the fluid level.Tilt the motor up as far as it will go,lockit with the lever lower it down to the stop & undo the fill plug the fluid should be just overflowing from the hole.If this doesnt help I would think it is a faulty relay or two.If you have one with burnt contacts this is quite likely replace them both they are change over relays & if one is faulty it can cause havoc with your system...Good luck :)
