Re: Trim and tilt stuck up
Stuck up huh? Had a girl friend like that once, been married to her now for about 46 years. Right now, she's almost tolerable (grin). Now, to your problem.......
That problem is usually caused by trailering the engine in the up position without having the engine locked down. The constant jumping up and down action of the engine when trailering causes the oil pressure to exceed the maximum output pressure of the oil pump. The cure is..........
First, lock/support that engine in the up position so that it cannot fall. If you fail to do this, have your health insurance paid up.
Now, notice on the left rear portion of the PTT unit a large slotted check valve...... remove it and also the springs and shuttle check valve behind it.
Notice the hole in the back portion of that check valve, and find a punch that will insert into it without damaging the sides of that sealing hole.
Looking inside the area where you removed that check valve, you will see the backside of another identical check valve. Insert that punch you picked out into the hole of that check valve and tap it with a hammer, tap hard enough so that the pressure on the other side of it is relieved. If you do it right, a small amount oil will come flying out of it...... so keep your face out of the way (been there, done that).
After relieving that pressure, install the shuttle valve and that check valve. The unit should now function if all else is well. Let us know.
NOTE: Proper method of trailering is to lower the engine with the PTT unit and have the TRIM rams pulled in all the way. When the TRIM rams are pulled in to there maximum point and the engine jerks slightly and changes pitch, STOP, let go of the button! Now, just for a miliscond, the slighest touch, hit the up button. This relieves the pressure slightly BUT at the same time secures the engine so that it is impossible for that pumping action to take place again.
