your trim limit switch is bunk or mis-adjusted. port side of the drive gimbal ring mounted with 2 screws in slots. the stbd side is the sender for the trim guage.

Yep. It has nothing to do with the hydraulics. It is a switch that keeps you from trimming the outdrive up too far while underway.

the trim limit switch is on the port side of the gimbel. it's purpose is to keep the drive from goint to high when you trim. the trailer button bypasses this function, thus the reason that you can still raise /trim with the trailer button. Do a search in this forum on trim limit switch repalcement and you will find all of the answers to you next question. How do I fix it?
Very common problem on merc outdrives.

Re: Trim--Bravo III

the purpose of the trim limit switch is to keep you from trimming up to much
when you trim with the trim switch it limits how far up it comes, using the trailer switch can raise it up to high . the trim limit switch is bypassed by the trailer switch . you can trim just like you are doing but be cautious not to go to much

Re: Trim--Bravo III

if it fails again follow the wires where they enter the inside of the transom to the trim pump. disconnect the limit switch wires and marry the other 2 wires together. keep in mind the trim limit switch was intended as a safety device and doing this removes that function. my opinion is its unecessary.
